Mind of Mencia doesn’t technically have a cast of any kind. We have very few repertory players and by few, I mean two. Brad Williams, otherwise known as the little person, and Joseph, Mencia’s brother. I wanted to take a second to spotlight Joseph because people always seem to ask him the same question: Are you really Mencia’s brother?
The answer is yes. They’re brothers and they both come from Honduras. What’s funny is that Joseph is featured on the show prominently but in “real life”, most of the people from his homeland of Honduras don’t know him as a TV personality. For the past number of years, Joseph has split his time between Honduras and the United States, spending time shooting episodes of Mind of Mencia and then traveling to be with his wife and kids in Honduras during hiatus.
For some of you that are fans of Mencia dating back to the 90’s, you’ll remember a popular joke he had about how he’s the youngest of 18 children and that when he announced to his family that he was going into stand-up, everyone was against it. He goes to talk about how ONE of his siblings said, “Let him, if he wants to be a clown then go ahead an juggle.” This sibling was Joseph. Joseph actually loaned Mencia a car at the beginning of his career so that he could drive from gig to gig. I think it’s because of this that Mencia decided to feature Joseph on his show nearly 20 years after first beginning in stand-up. Not only that, but if you’ve seen Mencia live in the past couple of years and possibly this tour coming up, you’ll see Joseph as well. He comes out and does a short introduction to the stand-up show.
So remember, if you have the chance of seeing Mencia in person, you’ll probably see Joseph as well, the guy that not only “plays” his brother on the show, but also, in real life.
